Speaker. Storyteller. Movement maker. Accidental vicar.
Life should be an adventure. Shane Dean helps you find yours. It's your story.
Shane Dean's story doesn't follow a straight line. That's exactly what makes it worth telling. Growing up, Shane faced real turbulence. Teenage mental health struggles cast a long shadow — until, at 21, two discoveries changed the direction of his life forever: the transformative power of positive thinking, and a hidden, burning passion for journalism. He had a plan. A big one. Political correspondent. The Washington Post. The world stage. Then came 9/11 — and with it, a shift in how Shane saw everything. Covering the aftermath for a national newspaper, he stumbled into an interview with a charismatic nightclub vicar. Over coffee, something unexpected happened: Shane became a vicar himself. No theological training. No roadmap. No life plan whatsoever. He was quickly nicknamed The Rebel Vicar — because he couldn't face the boring bits. So he rewrote the rulebook. The Purple Sheep Centre was born: part Starbucks-style coffee shop, part community movement, complete with a giant bouncy castle, a seven-foot hedgehog mascot, and a guest list that somehow included the Cheeky Girls and Sir Cliff Richard. Fun, laughter, and genuine community were the only doctrine. After five extraordinary years, Shane returned to national journalism. But something else came with him. Almost by accident, he had sparked a global good news movement in schools. Through Good News Rooms, children began finding and writing their own positive stories — interviewing ordinary heroes in their communities, and extraordinary ones too, from local volunteers to prime ministers in Downing Street. The project won awards. It changed lives. And it spread worldwide. In 2016, Shane founded the Good News Post — a UK-based national newspaper dedicated to community and world news told with kindness. That same year, he launched the Jill Dando News Network, honouring the beloved journalist's legacy by bringing positivity, journalism and a smile to young people aged 4 to 21. Shane's mission has always been the same: to release blue-sky thinking, confidence, imagination and hidden happiness in people, organisations and communities — wherever they are, whatever their story. For more than 23 years, he has spoken to audiences across businesses, schools, charities and churches. Drawing from his own extraordinary journey — and the stories of thousands of others — he helps people see what's truly possible when they change their thinking. Because all things are possible. "Change your thinking. Change your story. Change your life."
