The Story
Shane Dean has always been passionate about news, stories and politics. But years of teenage mental health struggles took the life out of him. Then aged 21 he discovered the power of positive thinking and discovered his life purpose and meaning. He flourished in the newsroom winning journalism awards and dreamed of the Washington Post. He made contacts at the Guardian political team but then 911 happened. It changed the world and Shane's mind too. Within a short time Shane became a vicar by accident. After five years a Rebel Vicar with a purple sheep philosophy, thinking differently, changing the story, doing hundreds of happiness talks, he returned to news journalism. While covering the London riots for the Guardian, he also founded his first Good News Room in a headteacher's office. A global movement was formed taking kid reporters to Downing Street and Malawi.
